Once per year, on a date and at a location announced by the [[Duskcrag Concord]] approximately thirty days in advance, a city appears on the edge of [[The Wastes]].

Not a camp. Not a market fair. A city — temporary, fully realized, erected in a single night by Concord crews using stabilization technology that creates a functioning aether pocket in territory where standard [[Hemotech]] has no business working. For ten days it is the most populated place in the southern reaches of [[Aeloria]]. Then it comes down, the site is left clean, and the world moves on until next year.

The Verge is Calythera's gathering — the one event where all four coalitions, the nomadic clans, and the independent peoples of the continent come together not to negotiate or compete but to show each other who they are. Every city-state brings its best. Every culture puts something on display. For ten days the distance between [[Brassveil Port]] and [[Ironshade Hold]], between [[Gildspire Nexus]] and [[Ashmourne Spire]], collapses into a single temporary city on the edge of nowhere, and the continent remembers that it is one world.

The [[Syndicate]] is barred from entry. The [[Duskcrag Concord]] enforces this without stated reason and without exception.

== How It Works ==

The Concord selects the location each year — always in the southern borderlands, always where the aether begins to thin, always close enough to the Wastes that the choice carries weight. The announcement comes thirty days out. By the time the date arrives, the movement toward it has already begun — caravans converging from all four directions, independent travelers on routes that are not on official maps, and the Concord's advance crews who have been preparing the site for weeks.

On the night before the first day, the settlement goes up. The Concord has done this more times than anyone currently living can count, and the efficiency of it — an entire functioning city assembled overnight — is itself one of the Verge's quiet wonders. When the ten days end, it comes down with the same efficiency. The site is left as it was found.

How the Concord creates a stable aether pocket in borderland territory is not published. That they do it, consistently, every year, is the only documentation that matters to the people who attend.

== The Pavilions ==

Each coalition brings a pavilion — not a trade stall, not a diplomatic tent, but a full constructed space that represents their city-state at its best. The pavilions are the heart of the Verge's World Fair character and the thing that most first-time attendees describe when they try to explain what the Verge actually is.

=== The Ironclad Pavilion ===

The Ironclad Dominion brings the smell of the sea to the southern borderlands. Salt timber construction, brass lanterns running the full perimeter, the sound of maritime working songs performed by crews who have traveled from [[Brassveil Port]] specifically for this. The pavilion's interior is built like the deck of the finest merchant vessel in the Dominion's fleet — open to the sky, rigged with rope and canvas overhead that catches the wind and fills it, the whole thing moving slightly in a way that everyone inside notices and nobody mentions.

The Dominion does not do subtle. Its pavilion is the largest, the loudest, and the most hospitable. The food is excellent. The ale is better. The trading happens naturally, in the margins of conversations that began as something else entirely.

=== The Enclave Pavilion ===

The [[Starwrought Enclave]] brings crystal and light. The pavilion is constructed from components that arrive in unmarked cases and assemble into something that looks, once complete, as though it has been growing here for decades — crystalline panels that catch and redirect the available light in ways that change throughout the day, a central demonstration space where Enclave researchers present work they have chosen specifically for the Verge audience rather than the Echo's technical evaluators.

The Enclave's Verge presentations are distinct from their formal prototype demonstrations. Here they show the things that are beautiful before they show the things that are useful. The audience for this is larger than the Enclave expected the first time they tried it. They have not changed the approach since.

=== The Covenant Pavilion ===

The [[Verdis Covenant]] brings water. The pavilion is centered on a working water feature — channels and falls and pools fed by a portable aether-powered circulation system that the Covenant's engineers install in the first hours of setup. The sound of it carries through the surrounding districts. The water itself is Aethermere Lake water, transported in sealed vessels and released here, on the borderland, as a gesture whose symbolism the Covenant does not explain and does not need to.

The pavilion's atmosphere is the quietest of the four — people come here to sit, to think, to have conversations that the louder districts do not accommodate. The Covenant's staff are present and available but do not seek engagement. They let the water do the work.

=== The Concord Pavilion & The Garden ===

The [[Duskcrag Concord]] brings stone, crystal, and the Garden.

The pavilion itself is the Concord's demonstration of what it makes — components and tools and craft objects displayed with the quiet confidence of people who do not need to explain quality because quality explains itself. The craftspeople who staff it are the best the Hold has sent, chosen not for their sales ability but for their willingness to sit with a visitor for an hour and show them exactly how a thing was made and why each decision was the right one.

Attached to the pavilion, occupying the space between it and the central plaza, is the Garden.

The Garden is the Concord's contribution to the Verge as a whole rather than to its own pavilion specifically — an installation built on the principles of the [[The Deepgarden|Deepgarden]] beneath Ironshade Hold, but expanded here to incorporate elements from every coalition. The Concord's carved stone pillars laced with [[Blackvein Crystal]] provide the structure and the light and the harmonic tone. The Enclave's crystal panels are woven into the upper reaches, catching and distributing the light differently at different hours. Brassveil Port's salt timber forms the benches and the walkway frames, worn smooth and warm in a way that stone alone is not. Ashmourne Spire's water channels run through it, fed by the Covenant's portable circulation system, the sound of water over gem-inlaid stone the same sound that fills the Fontward Gallery.

The result is something that belongs to no single coalition and to all of them. People who have spent their entire lives in one city-state and never traveled sit in the Garden and feel, for the first time, what it means to be from Aeloria rather than from Brassveil Port or Ironshade Hold or Gildspire Nexus specifically. People who have traveled the continent extensively sit in it and feel that the world they know has been gathered into one place and made briefly, temporarily, whole.

The Garden is open throughout the ten days without restriction. No documentation is required to enter. No fee is charged. The Concord erects it first, before any other structure, and dismantles it last.

== The Gathering ==

Beyond the pavilions, the Verge is ten days of the continent in full expression. Food from every city-state available within a few minutes walk of any point in the settlement. Music from every tradition playing simultaneously in different districts, occasionally finding each other in the open spaces between. Demonstrations of craft, engineering, navigation, agricultural technique, and a dozen other disciplines that rarely get displayed outside the cities where they were developed.

Children who grow up in Aeloria are brought to the Verge. Most of them remember it for the rest of their lives. Not a specific thing they saw or ate or heard — though those memories exist too — but the feeling of the whole, the sense of a world that is larger and more various and more worth being part of than the view from any single city-state suggests.

Trade happens. Negotiations happen. Information changes hands in the margins of conversations that began as something else. These things are the background texture of the Verge, not its purpose. They happen because people are here and people are people. The Verge does not need them to justify itself.

[[House Corvayne]] attends without the documentation requirements that coalition protocols normally impose on nomadic clans. This is one of the Verge's oldest standing arrangements. The people most capable of operating in the territory the Verge is built in are treated accordingly.
