The Echo Reaver is a class focused on weaponizing resonance echoes and feedback loops through specialized hemotech instruments. Echo Reavers excel at turning an enemy’s own attacks or nearby aether flows against them by creating delayed echoes, amplifying vibrations, or inducing cascading overloads.

Echo Reavers rely on Intelligence for echo calibration and Charisma for manipulating resonance frequencies. They are the tactical disruptors who turn the battlefield’s own energy into a weapon.

Core Mechanics

  • Hit Dice: 1d8 per Echo Reaver level
  • Hit Points at 1st Level: 8 + Constitution modifier
  • Hit Points at Higher Levels: 1d8 (or 5) + Constitution modifier per level after 1st
  • Proficiencies: Light armor, simple weapons, tinker's tools; Saving Throws: Intelligence, Charisma
  • Echo Gauge: Absorbed or reflected energy builds echo. Higher tiers unlock stronger feedback effects but increase the risk of uncontrolled cascade or self-resonance.
  • Build Choice (Level 1): Feedback Build (reflect and amplify incoming attacks) or Cascade Build (chain echoes across multiple targets).
  • Resonance Echo (Level 1): As a reaction to a nearby attack or aether effect, store a portion of the energy and release it later as a delayed echo (force or thunder damage + Int mod, with possible stun or knockback).

Higher levels add features such as Harmonic Rebound (return damage to attacker), Echo Chain (spread effect to additional targets), Overload Resonance (massive area feedback with high risk), and eventual mastery of controlled echo manipulation without catastrophic backlash.

Risks and Limitations

Echo Reavers must carefully manage stored resonance. High-tier abilities risk uncontrolled cascade (unpredictable area effects), self-resonance (damage to self), or instrument fracture. Prolonged use without venting leads to severe feedback exhaustion. All effects are purely mechanical — etched echo chambers, vibration-damping arrays, and calibrated feedback loops.

Echo Reavers dominate in reactive and control roles but become vulnerable if isolated or if the battlefield lacks sufficient aether activity to feed their systems.

Role in Calythera

Echo Reavers are valued in the Starwrought Enclave and among independent relic hunters for countering enemy hemotech and turning hostile environments to their advantage. They also serve as elite tactical support during festival security and high-stakes debt enforcement. Their ability to weaponize resonance makes them dangerous in aether-rich zones, though their reliance on existing energy flows limits effectiveness in deep Wastes void areas.
