Calythera Archives – Entry 43 – Warden Garrick Stoneforge

Garrick Stoneforge is the current Warden of the Duskcrag Concord and the presiding authority at Ironshade Hold. The title of Warden predates the Concord's current political structure by several centuries — it originates in the hold's pre-Mourning governance framework, where the Warden was the designated defender of the deep levels against structural failure, hostile incursion, and the category of problem that neither fully describes. The Concord kept the title when it formalized its coalition structure after the Mourning. Stoneforge is its current holder.

He does not court attention from outside the Concord's territory. What is documented about him in accessible archives is largely functional: decisions made, positions held, statements issued in official capacity. The rest is internal to the Concord, and the Concord does not circulate internal records.

The Office

The Warden of the Duskcrag Concord holds authority over the Vault Council — the body of senior forge-masters, mine administrators, and infrastructure chiefs that governs the Concord's day-to-day operations — and bears final responsibility for decisions that the Vault Council cannot or will not resolve by consensus. In practice this means the Warden is called upon when the situation is either too large or too politically difficult for the council to absorb on its own.

The Warden also serves as the Concord's primary external representative in inter-coalition matters, though the Concord has historically preferred to conduct its external relationships through formal delegation rather than direct participation. Stoneforge attends the Grand Alignment in person. Most other inter-coalition engagements are handled by appointed delegates.

What Is Documented

Stoneforge came to the Wardenship through the Concord's standard elevation process — appointment by Vault Council consensus following the death or retirement of the previous Warden, confirmed by a formal assembly of the hold's senior operational staff. He had held the position of Deep Operations Commander for eleven years before his elevation, overseeing the Concord's lower-level extraction operations and the infrastructure that supports them.

His record in that role is described in Concord documentation as technically distinguished. The characterization is consistent with what outside observers have noted: the Concord's deep operations expanded significantly during his tenure as Commander, and the structural failure rate in the expanded sections has remained below historical averages.

As Warden, his public positions have been consistent. The Concord's neutrality in Dominion-Enclave disputes is not a negotiating stance — it is a structural commitment that predates current tensions and will outlast them. The Concord's participation in the continental debt cycle network is maintained as infrastructure, not as political alignment. The Concord does not comment on other coalitions' internal governance.

He described the failed Turning at Brassveil Port as a matter for the Ironclad Dominion's consequences review and declined to characterize it further. The Concord's own stamping engine infrastructure performed normally during the relevant cycle. This was noted without elaboration.

Reputation

Within the Concord, Stoneforge's reputation is that of a Warden who does not require an audience for his decisions and does not explain them after the fact more than the situation demands. Whether this is regarded as a virtue depends on the observer and the decision in question.

Outside the Concord, he is known primarily as a reliable counterparty — someone whose stated positions reflect actual positions, whose commitments are kept, and whose disinterest in expansion or provocation is genuine rather than diplomatic. For parties who need to know where the Concord stands, this is considered useful. For parties who would prefer the Concord's position to be more flexible, it is considered inconvenient.
